Primitive Pixels, the team behind Seed of Nostalgia, has detailed a significant shift in design direction, replacing the game’s initial active-time battle system with a traditional turn-based combat structure.

Alongside the mechanical pivot, the 90s-inspired pixel-art JRPG has expanded its early-game scope, introducing over 125 revised maps across the world of Sylvara, pixel-based collision systems, action-input commands, and distinct skill trees for its eight playable party members.
Seed of Nostalgia follows initiate Atilla and his companions as they try to save the dying World Tree Verdan’Thala from a conspiracy led by Lord Heinrik Vandran. With hand-crafted pixel art and a retro soundtrack, the 25-to-30-hour adventure takes you across diverse biomes, where you’ll solve environmental puzzles and fight using active-timed combat and tactical class builds. Encounters are also non-random, so you’ll see your enemies in the world rather than running into them by chance.
Seed of Nostalgia is in development for PC via Steam, with a release date to be confirmed. A closed backer beta is also planned for later this year to refine these foundational systems ahead of a public Steam demo, with full mid-to-late game production slated for 2027.
