Real-time tactics wargame Strategos will launch for PC via Steam on January 20, delivering large-scale battles set across nearly a thousand years of warfare in classical antiquity. The historically grounded title focuses on command realism and systemic depth rather than fast-paced arcade action, placing emphasis on leadership, formation control, morale, and battlefield conditions.

Set between the era of the Persian Wars and the rise of the Sasanian Empire, Strategos allows command of massive armies ranging from Greek hoplites and Hellenistic phalanxes to Roman legions and regional powers from across the ancient Mediterranean and beyond. Battles unfold across expansive maps shaped by terrain, fatigue, disorder, and limited command ranges, with formations reacting dynamically to morale shocks, flanking maneuvers, and leadership decisions.
The game’s design centers on command and control, requiring careful use of generals, couriers, and positioning to keep armies cohesive under pressure. Timing and placement are as critical as unit quality, with poor decisions leading to routs, pursuits, or complete collapse of the battle line. Historical engagements such as Issos and Raphia are included at launch, while an extensive custom battle system enables the creation of both authentic recreations and hypothetical matchups.
Beyond standalone battles, Strategos also introduces an operational campaign mode in development. At launch, this begins with a Sicily-based campaign during the First Punic War, combining strategic movement, supply management, and siege decisions with the game’s tactical battles. Additional campaigns are planned to expand throughout Early Access, adding broader strategic context to individual engagements.
With support for hundreds of unit types, dozens of factions, customizable battle parameters, and AI or hotseat-style play, Strategos aims to provide a deep and methodical interpretation of ancient warfare when it arrives on PC later this month.
