Digital Happiness has provided a deeper look at DreadOut 3 during their DHXP 2026 digital event, showcasing new gameplay footage that has been in development for several months. The new footage emphasizes how protagonist Linda’s smartphone remains her primary tool for survival, serving as both her greatest weapon and a source of vulnerability.

Several updated mechanics were confirmed in the preview. For instance, the flashlight now flickers to signal nearby hostile spirits, necessitating constant vigilance during exploration. Beyond spotting threats, the returning first-person camera mode allows for photographing ghosts and uncovering hidden paths. A new energy-push mechanic was also demonstrated, enabling Linda to emit a flash that forces spirits out of their hiding spots.
Expanded environmental interactions now allow the camera to scan for lingering spiritual traces and obscured clues. Combat has similarly evolved; it now includes a system to weaken and trap ghosts by drawing ancient glyphs directly onto the smartphone screen.
The studio also acknowledged the collaborative effort behind the project, noting that partners like EXP, Morfosic, and Roleplay Studio have been integral in refining the game’s audio, animation, and visual assets.
Set to launch on PC via Steam, DreadOut 3 expands on the franchise’s Indonesian folklore roots. The sequel introduces a more ambitious scope than its predecessors, featuring a day-and-night cycle and environments that shift between reality and a spiritual plane.
