First-person co-op shooter John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando launches March 12 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam & Epic Games Store. Ahead of release, Focus Entertainment and Saber Interactive have unveiled a new animated trailer that spotlights the game’s grindhouse tone. A time-limited Steam demo is also available until March 2.

The newly released trailer leans fully into the project’s retro horror identity, presenting a stylized animated showcase crafted by Gizmo Animation. In a fitting twist, John Carpenter himself lends his voice to the production, portraying a larger-than-life zombie party deity overseeing the apocalypse. The trailer’s energy is amplified by an original track, “Tell Me When the World Stops Ending”, composed specifically for the reveal by synthwave band Gunship, reinforcing the unmistakable 1980s action-horror aesthetic.
While the trailer takes center stage, players can already step into the chaos through the public demo currently live on Steam. The playable slice allows squads to test the cooperative systems, class abilities, and large-scale swarm encounters that define the experience. Progress runs until March 2, giving players a limited window to gather a team and face the undead onslaught firsthand.
Set in a near-future world devastated by a failed scientific experiment, John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando follows a crew of mercenaries tasked with containing a spreading zombie catastrophe. Designed around four-player cooperative gameplay with full cross-platform support, the shooter blends on-foot combat with vehicular destruction across semi-open environments. Players select from distinct roles including Strike, Medic, Operator, and Defender, each encouraging synergy through complementary abilities.
Combat emphasizes both firepower and mobility. A broad arsenal of firearms and melee options supports varied playstyles, while armed vehicles allow teams to mow down massive hordes powered by Saber Interactive’s Swarm Engine. The focus remains on momentum-driven action, coordinated teamwork, and overwhelming enemy density.
The game will be available in Standard and Blood Editions. Pre-orders for either edition grant the Leon’s Secret Stash DLC at no additional cost, while the Blood Edition includes post-launch cosmetic content and customization bonuses.
With its animated trailer celebrating the game’s B-movie spirit and the demo currently playable, John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando builds momentum ahead of its March 12 release across consoles and PC.
