Publisher KRAFTON and developer KRAFTON Montreal Studio have officially unveiled Project Windless, a single-player open-world action RPG based on the acclaimed Korean fantasy novel series The Bird That Drinks Tears.

Currently in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, the title utilizes Unreal Engine 5 to bring a mythical age of legends to life. While a release date has not yet been confirmed, the project represents a major global collaboration between KRAFTON’s North American and South Korean development hubs.
The narrative of Project Windless is set approximately 1,500 years before the events of the original novels, allowing players to explore a largely untouched era of the franchise’s history. Players take on the role of the Hero King, a legendary warrior of the Rekon race—towering, bird-like humanoid beings known for their immense physical power and ferocity. This non-linear experience focuses on player agency, where decisions made during exploration and combat directly influence alliances between the world’s four intelligent races: Humans, Rekon, Nhaga, and Tokkebi.
Project Windless‘ gameplay centers on a “one-versus-many” combat system, blending fast-paced, skill-based action with massive real-time warfare. Utilizing proprietary “Mass Technology,” the game features battlefields where thousands of soldiers and gargantuan creatures clash simultaneously. Unlike traditional strategy titles, players fight directly within these epic engagements, using twin star-forged blades to turn the tide of history. As a premium single-player experience with no live-service elements, the title aims to deliver a focused power fantasy where players actively create the foundations of a future kingdom.
