Square Enix has released a free playable demo for Final Fantasy Resonance, the first HD-2D title in the main Final Fantasy franchise, following its feature during today’s Sony State of Play showcase. The newly released trailer also revealed that Sephiroth will make an appearance as a special encounter, rewarding players who manage to find and defeat him.

The free demo is available immediately across PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Xbox on PC. Players can experience the opening chapter of the game (approximately 3 to 5 hours of gameplay) set in the Kingdom of Grandshelt, with all save progress carrying over to the full release on October 22, 2026.
As a tribute to classic and modern entry points of the series, Final Fantasy Resonance adapts the original storyline of the mobile title Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, rebuilding it from the ground up into a standalone console-grade RPG experience. The game combines traditional turn-based combat with modern tactical mechanics and pixel-art visuals, alongside appearances from legacy characters such as Cloud, Tidus, and the Warrior of Light.
Final Fantasy Resonance launches on October 22, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Pre-orders are live across all platforms.
