Developer Ayelet Studio has debuted a new release window trailer for Son of Thanjai during Gamescom 2026, confirming the 11th-century South India-set action adventure will launch in spring 2027.

The cinematic epic places players in the shoes of a Chola king burdened by his father’s legacy as unrest threatens the empire of Thanjavur. Blurring the line between duty and destiny, players must navigate political intrigue, foreign saboteurs, and internal betrayals to secure their throne.
Gameplay in Son of Thanjai combines stealth tactics and fluid melee combat inspired by the ancient martial art of Kalarippayattu. Players can wield period-authentic weaponry, master the deadly Surulvaal (whip-sword), execute brutal finishers, and ride mounts ranging from horses and bulls to combat elephants. Beyond combat, the game offers a detailed recreation of the historical Chola empire, featuring Tamil cultural ceremonies, classical dances, hidden lore, and dynamic NPC interactions.
Son of Thanjai launches in spring 2027 and will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Microsoft Store, alongside a day-one release on Xbox Game Pass.
