Nintendo has officially announced Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, the next iteration in its premier active-motion multiplayer franchise, developed exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2 hardware. Scheduled to launch globally on October 22, 2026, the game aims to capture the beloved vacation energy of the classic Wii era while utilizing modern processing power. Digital pre-orders have officially gone live via the Nintendo eShop starting today, retailing at a standard price point of $49.99.

The upcoming title encourages players to get up and move across a robust selection of 12 distinct sports simulations designed around intuitive physics and motion tracking. The complete roster combines returning favorites with unexpected new disciplines. Players can engage in precise, physical actions like gently swinging a racket in Tennis and Table Tennis, pulling back and aiming a bow like a seasoned archer in Archery, or lining up perfect shots in Bowling, Golf, and Basketball. The lineup also introduces chaotic combat and team mechanics, allowing players to duke it out in high-energy Boxing matches, work in tandem during competitive Volleyball sets, or even engage in intense micro-battles using a single digit in Thumb Wrestling.
A major focus of the title is the dynamic integration of the console’s updated input hardware. Nintendo Switch Sports Resort introduces unique navigation and traversal systems that leverage the specialized Joy-Con 2 mouse and gyro sensors. Players will explore an expansive tropical island getaway by utilizing physical tilt and steering actions – allowing them to effortlessly cruise across ocean waves in Power Cruising, skate through urban paths in Skateboarding, or take to the skies to fly around completely freely in Prop Plane.
The game fully supports both offline local couch play and robust online multiplayer infrastructure, letting users compete with customized, sleek Sportsmate characters or classic personal Miis. While character progression and cosmetic unlocks are built into the core experience, Nintendo noted that specific parameters regarding maximum online player counts per match will be detailed closer to the autumn launch window.
