Developer Blue Backpack, alongside co-publishing partners ByteRockers’ Games and Parco Games, has officially announced that its critically acclaimed 2D hand-drawn Metroidvania, Constance, is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. Following a highly successful launch on the original platform, the teams confirmed that players who already own the game on the first Nintendo Switch will receive a digital upgrade to the Switch 2 version completely free of charge.

The upgraded hardware allows the new version of Constance to introduce significant technical enhancements. Players will be able to choose between a dedicated performance mode running up to 120 FPS or a specialized quality mode crisping up the hand-drawn visuals at 1440p resolution. Alongside these visual upgrades, the Switch 2 edition will integrate fully overhauled audio systems and built-in system achievements for completionists to hunt down.
Constance‘s narrative drops you into the shoes of a paintbrush-wielding artist traversing a surreal, interconnected inner-world born from her own psyche. Divided into six unique, non-linear biomes, each region is filled with distinct characters and threatening enemies that directly manifest different aspects of Constance’s personal history, mental health struggles, and creative blockages. To help her find her inner purpose, you must explore these dangerous mental landscapes to unearth hidden secrets and overcome deadly boss battles.
The core gameplay focuses on a high-speed “flow-state” loop that combines precise platforming with fluid traversal mechanics. You can physically transform into paint to dive into the ground, slip through solid walls, and slice through the air to ambush enemies. Advancing past complex puzzles and platforming hazards requires you to continuously master a versatile array of unique brush techniques. By unlocking fresh brush styles and conquering side quests, you will systematically grow stronger, allowing you to pave multiple customized paths through Constance’s mind.
