Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced Until Dawn 2, a direct standalone sequel to the 2015 interactive horror classic. The project is currently in development at Firesprite Games and is scheduled for release on the PlayStation 5 in 2027.

Moving away from the setting of the original game, Until Dawn 2 features an entirely fresh cast of characters within a brand-new environment. The plot centers on an ambitious team of independent ghost hunters who travel to a remote, abandoned tropical island to film a television-network-funded pilot episode. The narrative quickly shifts into survival horror as a localized haunting, revolving around a woman’s historical accounts of demonic phenomena, begins to physically manifest across the island.
Until Dawn 2‘s gameplay retains the core cinematic choice-driven structure established by its predecessor, tasking players with managing immediate life-or-death situations where shifting narrative branches determine which crew members survive the expedition. Firesprite Games confirmed that the sequel marks the return of the franchise’s signature “butterfly effect” mechanic, where seemingly minor choices carry long-term narrative consequences. Additionally, Peter Stormare is confirmed to reprise his role as the enigmatic analyst Dr. Hill to anchor the game’s overarching framing device.
