Supermassive Games has released a new multiplayer trailer for their upcoming sci-fi thriller Directive 8020 during the Future Games Show Spring Showcase, spotlighting the return of the series’ Movie Night mode.

The cooperative mode allows up to five players locally to experience the story together by sharing a single controller and each controlling different members of the Cassiopeia crew as the narrative unfolds. As with other entries in The Dark Pictures Anthology, every decision can determine who survives and who doesn’t.
Players must work together to navigate alien threats, critical system failures, and difficult moral choices, while paranoia builds among the crew. A five-player online multiplayer mode mirroring the couch co-op experience is also planned as a free post-launch update.
New “Turning Points” Feature
Directive 8020 also introduces Turning Points, a new system that displays a branching story tree and allows players to revisit key decisions. This makes it possible to replay pivotal moments to see different outcomes, including saving characters who previously died.
In group play, this mechanic adds another layer of tension. Friends can decide whether to accept the consequences of a failed decision or rewind to try again. For players who prefer permanent consequences, Survival Mode disables rewinds so every choice remains final.
About the Game
Set twelve light-years from Earth, Directive 8020 takes place aboard the colony ship Cassiopeia after it crash-lands on the distant planet Tau Ceti f. What begins as a survival mission quickly turns into a nightmare when the crew discovers an alien organism capable of perfectly mimicking its victims, creating paranoia and mistrust among the survivors.
Players guide five crew members through branching storylines, making choices that determine not only who lives or dies, but potentially the fate of humanity.
Directive 8020 launches May 12, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, and PC via Steam.
