Action-adventure 2D platformer Croak is now playable via a brand-new demo on PC via Steam. Developed by WoodRunner Games, the Québec-based studio introduces players to a hand-drawn adventure starring an agile frog prince navigating a twisted carnival known as the Feast Fair.
Presented alongside a new trailer for the Québec Steam Sale event, Croak blends precision platforming with expressive, frame-by-frame animation crafted by artists whose past credits include work on Cuphead and Rick and Morty. The result is a vibrant, whimsical world built around momentum-driven movement and tongue-based traversal mechanics.
Players step into the role of an unexpectedly nimble frog hero armed with a versatile tongue-grapple that allows bouncing, swinging, and launching across intricately designed environments. Movement is built around a focused two-action system that emphasizes precision, timing, and fluid momentum. Each run is designed to feel compact yet skill-driven, rewarding mastery and experimentation.
The demo offers access to the game’s first region, set within a swamp overtaken by the Witch’s bizarre carnival. Across five fast-paced levels, players will encounter environmental puzzles, hidden secrets, and escalating platforming challenges, culminating in a major boss confrontation. The playable slice includes the Ferris Wheel challenge, a Beaver boss fight, 11 collectible gold medals, and a hidden high-difficulty level that can be unlocked through exploration.
Beyond the demo, Croak promises more than 1,000 interconnected rooms spanning diverse biomes such as snow-covered peaks and underground caverns. The full game will feature optional high-difficulty stages, collectible-driven achievements, mini-games, and eccentric boss encounters ranging from BMX-performing beavers to illusionist bats. Replayability is central to its design, encouraging speed techniques, shortcut discovery, and completion-based rewards.
With its expressive animation style and mechanically focused platforming, Croak positions itself as a skill-based adventure wrapped in a playful yet surreal atmosphere. The demo is available now on Steam for players eager to test their reflexes and explore the Feast Fair’s first twisted attractions.
