The horror adventure game Directive 8020: A Dark Pictures Game will launch on May 12 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, publisher and developer Supermassive Games has confirmed. Console pre-orders are now live and include a free upgrade to the Digital Deluxe Edition.

Set twelve light years from Earth, Directive 8020: A Dark Pictures Game places players aboard the colony ship Cassiopeia after it crash-lands on Tau Ceti f, a distant planet seen as humanity’s last hope. What begins as a survival mission quickly escalates when the crew realizes they are being hunted by an alien organism capable of perfectly mimicking its victims, turning paranoia and mistrust into constant threats.
Players will guide five different crew members throughout the story, making high-stakes decisions that shape not only who survives, but potentially the fate of humanity itself. Survival depends on careful observation, stealth, and resourcefulness, with new mechanics designed to heighten tension while exploring the ship and its surroundings. Tools such as scanners, communication devices, and improvised equipment play a crucial role in uncovering secrets, solving environmental challenges, and evading deadly pursuers.
As part of The Dark Pictures Anthology, the game retains the series’ signature elements, including branching narratives, morally impossible choices, and split-second decision-making. At the same time, Supermassive Games has refined and expanded the formula to emphasize danger and vulnerability, ensuring that exploration feels more threatening than ever as death lurks in both familiar faces and the shadows of deep space.
