The action RPG Genigods: Nezha has been officially revealed for PlayStation 5 and PC (via Steam and the Epic Games Store), with a planned release window of 2028, Genigods Lab has announced alongside the debut gameplay reveal trailer. The project is being developed in collaboration with Sony and marks a new single-player title built in Unreal Engine 5.
Genigods: Nezha is a third-person action RPG rooted in early Chinese genesis mythology, drawing inspiration from the fast, cinematic combat of classic action titles while presenting a large-scale mythological narrative. Players begin their journey as the Spirit Pearl, the first spark of life created by the goddess Nüwa, before evolving through multiple forms and ultimately being reborn as Nezha, the legendary rebel deity. The story unfolds across mythic eras and introduces legendary figures such as Yi, the sun-feller, and Yu, the flood-tamer, while a sentient companion born from sacred water accompanies the protagonist throughout the adventure.
Combat is designed around speed, precision, and adaptability, blending ground and aerial encounters through fluid stance switching and temporary mythic transformations. Inspired by Bruce Lee’s “Be Water” philosophy, the system emphasizes timing, parries, and reactive counterattacks, allowing players to condense or release water-based power in different forms depending on the situation. As the journey progresses, players unlock new abilities, combine mythic treasures into custom skills, and face enemies ranging from grounded foes to towering gods that must be climbed and fought across their massive forms.
The game’s world spans both mortal and celestial realms, featuring large-scale set pieces such as the Sun Tree that bridges heaven and earth, and mythological trials tied directly to Chinese legend. According to Genigods Lab, the experience is designed as a premium, pay-upfront title with a strong narrative focus, emphasizing epic boss encounters, environmental storytelling, and player-driven progression. Further details are expected as development continues toward its 2028 launch on PlayStation 5 and PC.
