Square Enix has announced that a demo for the role-playing game Dragon Quest VII Reimagined will launch on January 7 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and Microsoft Store, offering an early hands-on look ahead of the full release scheduled for February 5, 2026.

The demo allows players to experience the opening portion of Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, with progress carrying over directly to the full game at launch. Those who take part will also unlock the “Day Off Dress” costume for Maribel, which can be used once the complete version becomes available. This incentive is tied specifically to demo participation, encouraging players to sample the reimagined adventure ahead of release.
Originally released in 2000, Dragon Quest VII has been rebuilt with a modern presentation while preserving the structure and tone that defined the original. The reimagined version introduces a storybook-inspired visual style, refined pacing, and updated systems designed to make the lengthy journey more approachable for contemporary audiences. Players follow a group of heroes as they uncover lost islands, explore towns and dungeons, and piece together a sprawling narrative driven by classic turn-based combat.
