Publisher Wangyuan Shengtang and developer Aurogon Shanghai have officially unveiled Swords of Legends, a single-player action RPG and direct continuation of the Gujian series, previously revealed as Gujian 4 back in 2021. The title is in development with Unreal Engine 5 for consoles and PC via Steam, though a release date has not yet been announced.

The game places players in the role of an Underworld Enforcer, a figure who travels between the worlds of the living and the dead. Tasked with guiding lost souls toward closure, players will encounter deeply personal stories, such as spirits clinging to their former lives at great cost. Mythological figures including the Ox-Head and Horse-Face guardians will join the adventure as companions, expanding the Gujian universe with new layers of folklore.
While cinematic storytelling and exploration are central to the experience, the gameplay follows a wide-linear structure rather than fully open-world or Soulslike design. Combat emphasizes flexibility and accessibility, incorporating narrative-driven mechanics like soul capturing, which allows players to summon defeated monsters or combine powers with companions for special attacks. A range of weapons, skills, and utility items ensure that both newcomers and veterans can adapt their playstyle to diverse enemy encounters.
The developers describe Swords of Legends as a premium single-player title, distancing it from live-service or mobile projects. The story will remain fully self-contained, allowing newcomers unfamiliar with earlier Gujian entries to step directly into the world without prior knowledge.
