Publisher Deep Silver and developer 4A Games have announced that METRO 2039 will launch on February 4, 2027, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and Microsoft Store. The release date reveal was accompanied by the game’s first console gameplay footage.

Set twenty-five years after a devastating nuclear war, the story takes place in the year 2039 within the shattered ruins and subterranean tunnels of post-apocalyptic Moscow. The Metro’s lingering survivor factions have been forcibly united under Hunter – a fanatical Spartan leader ruling the oppressive Novoreich regime through fear, propaganda, and subjugation to fuel a new war for the surface. Players assume the role of the Stranger, a reclusive survivor driven out of exile by violent waking nightmares, forcing him to return to the underground tunnels he swore to leave behind.
Inspired by Dmitry Glukhovsky’s best-selling book trilogy, METRO 2039 returns the series to its linear roots, emphasizing dense environmental storytelling, survival resource management, stealth, and claustrophobic first-person combat.
