Digital Happiness has published a new devlog for DreadOut 3, this time focusing on how the game’s ghosts are being designed and, more importantly for players, how they will behave during encounters. The developer also confirmed that protagonist Linda will have several different looks throughout the game, with some outfits tied to what she is doing during the story.

Using the Kuntilanak as an example, the developers explain that ghosts won’t simply attack Linda in predictable patterns. In the normal world, the Kuntilanak can disappear, remain still, approach Linda, or give up the chase if she gets far enough away. In the Dark World, however, the ghost becomes considerably more aggressive.
Also newly revealed: encounters can now span multiple combat phases. As the Kuntilanak takes damage, she becomes more dangerous, gains new abilities such as dodging certain attacks, and can retreat before resuming the hunt. The idea is to make enemies evolve during a fight rather than simply giving them larger health bars.
Rooted in Indonesian folklore, DreadOut 3 continues Linda’s journey between the physical and spiritual worlds, using claustrophobic environments, shifting spaces, and the IrisPhone to create tension before the ghosts even show up. The horror action-adventure is currently in development for PC and is scheduled to launch on Steam.
