Bandai Namco and developer Media.Vision have officially launched a playable demo for Digimon Story: Time Stranger on the Nintendo eShop, opening up early access for both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. Mimicking the existing trials available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, this portable slice allows you to carry your progress directly over to the full game when it officially debuts. Following its highly successful initial launch on alternative hardware platforms last year, the monster-taming RPG is slated to make its portable arrival on July 10, 2026.

In this latest entry in the Digimon Story subseries, you step into the shoes of Dan or Kanan Yūki, an elite operative belonging to a covert defense organization called ADAMAS. While working an active anomaly investigation in Tokyo’s Shinjuku district, you are caught in a catastrophic crossfire between warring digital monsters and thrown eight years into the past. To prevent the collapse of reality, you must navigate a massive space-time rift leading to Iliad, a gorgeous, unexplored Digital World. Here, you will hunt down clues to stop a tyrannical group of rogue Digimon known as the Titans, using time-loop loops to rewrite history and change fate itself.
The gameplay structure focuses heavily on deep exploration, resource management, and strategic turn-based battles. You can scan, tame, and raise an expansive roster of over 450 distinct Digimon, configuring your team layout with highly customizable evolution paths.
While the standard Switch port offers stable portable play, the optimized Nintendo Switch 2 version introduces dedicated performance options. You will be able to toggle between a Quality Mode running at a high-end 4K resolution at 30 frames per second when docked, or a Performance Mode that locks the action at a buttery-smooth 60 frames per second at full 1080p resolution in both television and handheld formats.
