Publisher Silver Lining Interactive and developer Painted Black Games have announced that their upcoming title, The Road of Dust and Sorrow, will launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and Nintendo Switch alongside its previously announced PC (Steam and Itch.io) version. The multiplatform experience is slated to release sometime in 2026.

Described as a cozy survival horror adventure, The Road of Dust and Sorrow features a linear, story-driven setup wrapped in beautiful pixel art. The game draws direct gameplay and atmospheric inspiration from foundational survival horror classics like Resident Evil and Silent Hill.
The overarching narrative centers on a dark sci-fi premise: a synthetic cure originally engineered to end global famine backfired, destroying civilization and twisting the population into feral, ravenous creatures known as “Dusters.” Against this post-apocalyptic backdrop, a mother named Katherine and her daughter Ava roam through abandoned streets, barricaded homes, and decaying buildings where vegetation grows back at an accelerated rate.
The Road of Dust and Sorrow‘s gameplay will focus heavily on dystopian survival, exploration, and environmental puzzles. You must claw your way through locked rooms, forgotten corridors, and dangerous encounters with bloodthirsty monsters. Your ultimate objective is to protect Ava at all costs – a task made even more perilous when the duo draws the unwanted attention of a fanatic Preacher and his mysterious, hungry cult.
