Ahead of its highly anticipated summer launch, developer System Era Softworks and publisher Devolver Digital are giving players a final chance to explore the Astroneer universe early. A brand-new public playtest for STARSEEKER: Astroneer Expeditions is officially scheduled to begin this Thursday, June 4.

In a rare move for pre-release tests, the development team confirmed that all player progression unlocked during this week’s testing window will carry over seamlessly into the official release. The upcoming gameplay window serves as the final dress rehearsal before STARSEEKER: Astroneer Expeditions officially launches into Early Access on June 11 across PC via Steam, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2.
This week’s playtest will allow crews to get their first hands-on experience with the game’s core loop, which pivots away from the solo survival of the original Astroneer to focus on deep-space cooperative multiplayer, team camaraderie, and shared progression. Playtest participants will board the ESS Starseeker, a persistent orbital space station that serves as the game’s evolving social hub. From there, players can team up with friends or match with strangers to plan expeditions, upgrade tech suits, and unlock powerful abilities.
The test will challenge teams to deploy to volatile alien planets to tackle massive, planet-wide objectives while fending off hazardous environmental anomalies and aggressive extraterrestrial wildlife. Solo players are also encouraged to join the test, as objectives can be completed alone or used as a way to recruit new crewmates on the station before diving into deep space.
