Puzzle-RPG-FPS hybrid Reconfigure is now in public pre-alpha playtesting on PC via Steam, alongside the release of a brand-new gameplay trailer.

Developed by Antti Tiihonen under his solo studio Hapatus Ltd, Reconfigure places players aboard an abandoned starship where survival hinges on logic, careful combat decisions, and methodical exploration. Tiihonen, known as one of the developers behind the Legend of Grimrock series and a founder of Almost Human, builds on his background in blending role-playing systems, puzzles, and real-time action.
At the core of Reconfigure lies a grid-based block puzzle mechanic that shapes the entire experience. Because rapid acceleration aboard the vessel creates crushing gravity, traditional platforming actions such as jumping are restricted. Instead, players manipulate magnetic blocks, pressure plates, and switches to navigate obstacles as the ship dynamically reconfigures around them. The new trailer highlights these environmental challenges alongside encounters with hostile security robots and glimpses of the starship’s shifting layout.
Combat emphasizes tactical thinking and resource management rather than relentless firefights. Players can choose to engage robotic threats directly or avoid confrontation when supplies run low. Progression systems allow for skill development and customization through weapons, drones, and cybernetic implants, strengthening survivability within the hostile environment.
Exploration unfolds across hand-crafted, branching levels filled with secrets and hidden equipment caches left behind by the ship’s last survivor. As players advance, they uncover fragments of the vessel’s history while working to prevent it from reaching a mysterious fate.
The newly launched public pre-alpha playtest offers approximately one hour of gameplay and can be accessed through the game’s Steam page.
